Book a Health Check-upHealth check-up questions
Which health check-up do I actually need at my age?
Under 30 with no symptoms and no family history, a basic screen every couple of years is usually enough: blood count, blood sugar, and blood pressure. From 30 onwards, and earlier if diabetes or heart disease runs in the family, add a lipid profile and thyroid function annually. From 45 to 50, kidney and liver function and an ECG become worth doing routinely. We would rather advise the right tests for you than sell a package with lines you do not need.
Do I need to fast before a health check-up?
For blood sugar and a lipid profile, yes — 8 to 10 hours, which in practice means booking a morning slot and eating nothing after dinner. Water is fine and you should keep drinking it. Take your regular medicines as usual unless we have told you otherwise, and if you are on diabetes medication, ask us first, because fasting with some of those carries a hypoglycaemia risk.
How soon will I get my results, and will someone explain them?
Routine blood work ordered in the morning is generally available the same evening. Results are reviewed with you rather than handed over as a printout: what is normal, what is borderline and worth repeating, and what actually needs acting on. A number flagged out of range on a lab report often needs no treatment at all, and knowing which is which is the point of the consultation.
I feel completely fine. Is a check-up worth it?
That is precisely when it is worth it. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, thyroid problems, anaemia and early kidney disease are all symptomless in their early stages — feeling well is not evidence of the absence of any of them. The point of screening is to catch these while they are still easy to correct, rather than after they have caused damage.
What should I bring to a health check-up?
Any previous test reports for comparison, the packets or strips of every medicine and supplement you take, and a note of any conditions that run in your family — diabetes, heart disease, thyroid disorders or cancers in parents or siblings genuinely change which tests are worth doing.
